Relationships

Our first relationships, with our parents, are powerful in setting up our understanding of how relationships work. As very young children, we develop something called an Internal Working Model – this is our representation of what to expect from others in an intimate relationship. And it’s there, when we’re adults, unconsciously affecting our partner choice.

Understanding this process can help us avoid repeatedly getting into dysfunctional relationships. Find out more in the SWAP video below. You could also use this presentation to show students how this works.
